Due to forecasts calling for thunderstorms this Friday, the Iowa City Transit's Electric Bus Bash has been moved to 2 to 4 p.m. on Friday, May 6, 2022, at Riverfront Crossings Park, 1001 S. Clinton St.

The celebration of the City's four new electric buses will feature tours of an electric City bus, speakers, light refreshments, e-bikes, educational EV information, giveaways, and more fun!

Federal law requiring face masks on public transit buses extended to May 3, 2022

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's face mask requirement, which pertains to traveling on any public transit vehicles - including Iowa City Transit - to help reduce the spread of COVID-19, has been extended to May 3, 2022 .

Face masks must be worn at transit stops, including the transit interchange, boarding the bus, riding, and while disembarking.

Iowa City’s quarterly finance report for the quarter that ended March 31, 2022, is now available at www.icgov.org/budget. This report provides information on the City’s fund balances, revenues, and expenditures compared to budgeted amounts and budget variances.

The quarterly finance report is required by the City Council’s Financial and Fiscal Policies.

Oakland Cemetery

Pavement work in Oakland Cemetery will limit public access April 18-21

Due to road resurfacing within Oakland Cemetery, the main entrance will be closed to traffic and several roads will be blocked off beginning Monday, April 18 through Thursday, April 21. Limited access will be maintained through the Reno Street entrance during this work, but visitors are encouraged to avoid the area while work is being done.

Due to safety concerns, pedestrians are also discouraged during the construction activity.

Iowa City City Council meetings to return to City Hall on April 19, 2022

Beginning Tuesday, April 19, 2022, Iowa City City Council meetings will once again take place inside City Hall, 410 E. Washington St. Meetings will be held inside Emma Harvat Hall, which is located just inside the Washington Street entrance to City Hall.

Council meetings had previously been held at The Senior Center to allow for more social distancing. With Covid-19 cases decreasing, the City Council agreed to move meetings back to City Hall.

Crews will clean winter debris from Downtown Iowa City streets overnight Friday, April 15, 2022, beginning at 2 a.m. Vehicles parked in tow-away zones will be removed.

Towing will impact Prentiss Street to Market Street, Madison Street to Gilbert Street, as well as N. Clinton Street from Market Street to Church Street. The parking in these areas are metered spots, which do not permit parking from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. Follow all posted parking signs to prevent your vehicle from being towed.

The City of Iowa City Water Division has begun its annual fire hydrant flushing and maintenance program, which will continue through the summer.

Fire hydrants are a crucial public safety component, providing water for fire protection, as well as to flush the municipal water system after a water main break or service work. Hydrants will be inspected and repaired to ensure reliability during emergencies.

Disruption of online permitting services coming April 21-22

The Iowa City Land Management, Permitting, and Licensing software will undergo planned updates on Thursday, April 21, and Friday, April 22, 2022, causing a disruption of related online City services.

This software is used by Building Inspections, Housing Inspections, the Urban Planning Division, and the Public Works Department. Alcoholic beverage licenses and permits through the City Clerk's Office will also be impacting.
