The Iowa City Fire Department responded to a building fire 2414 Freedom Court at 5:35 a.m. on Thursday, November 12. The first unit arrived on scene and reported a working fire in a commercial building.

Fire crews made an interior fire attack, finding fire in a shop area and in the building’s attic space. The fire was brought under control within two hours of arrival.

For 18 years, the Iowa City Police Department has been part of a coalition of local law enforcement agencies that has offered a Citizen Police Academy to promote knowledge and understanding of police operations and help build stronger relationships with residents and communities. The trainers, now preparing for their 19th year, encourage people who are interested in gaining greater understanding of law enforcement and police work, want to enhance communication between officers and residents, or who are considering law enforcement as a career, to participate in the program in 2016.

On November 12, 2015, at approximately 1:02 a.m., Iowa City Police responded to 431 South Dodge Street for a report of an armed home-invasion robbery.

According to several victims inside the residence, three black males suddenly, and without warning, kicked the front door into the residence and entered.
