South Linn Street should reopen to traffic next week as the Pedestrian Mall Improvements Project moves closer to completion.
On the east end of the project last week, bricks have been laid all the way to South Linn Street. Most plants and trees have been planted as well.
This week, more benches will be installed in the area, along with pavers, planters, and some final sidewalk work.
Most fences should be moved past the west Ped Mall entrance of the Iowa City Public Library this week. If weather cooperates, construction will enter its final stage on the east part of the project.
On the west end, more electrical work was done, along with sub-slab work around the story wall featuring the work of renowned Iowa City poet Marvin Bell.
In the coming days, pedestrian-level lights and more benches should be installed in the area.
The next Ped Mall Renovation Project meeting will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 13, in Room D at the Iowa City Public Library.
