After months of work, crews were able to reopen Black Hawk Mini Park last week as the Ped Mall Improvements Project swings fully into its final phase.

All the planters were finished in Black Hawk Mini Park, along with the brick pavers. Some small details will be finished on the Story Wall by June, along with a small amount of electrical work, but the park will remain open.

Work also progressed on the Weatherdance Fountain, which should be working fully in early June. Glass has been fully installed on the nearby canopy, with gutters, rigging, and some electrical work to be finished soon.

The area will be set for the Summer of the Arts' Friday Night Concert series, which will have its first Ped Mall performance of the season Friday, May 24, 2019.

As Phase II, the final phase, started last week, crews tore up and replaced pavement in front of Bread Garden Market's Ped Mall entrance and replaced it. Work will continue in front of Bread Garden and Formosa next week. Work will shift towards The Union Bar and Revival.

During Phase II, the playground by the Iowa City Public Library will remain open for the public. All Downtown Iowa City businesses, including the Library, will remain open during construction.

The next Ped Mall business meeting will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 24, 2019 at the Iowa City Public Library, Meeting Room D, 123 S. Linn St.
