The Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department is hosting Things That Go, a fun-filled family event offering hands-on building and doing.

The two-day event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, March 18 and March 19, 2022, at the Robert A. Lee Community Recreation Center, 220 S. Gilbert Street.

Things That Go will let children celebrate, build, and play with toy planes, trains, and automobiles. The event will feature a multitude of Brio and Duplo tracks and trains, a LEGO spaceship building center, plus a number of Hot Wheels tracks and activities. On display, will be the Hawkeye Model Railroad Club’s track and trains exhibit. And for your racing pleasure, there will be a large RC car track hosted by HobbyTown Cedar Rapids.

This STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) based event features many hands-on, engaging activities centered around the principles and science of motion.  A special thanks goes to Hills Bank for their generous donation that makes this event free to the public.

All ages and abilities are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult. For more information, contact Joyce Carroll at
