With the start of a new school year approaching, the Iowa City Police Department is offering some safety reminders for students traveling to and from school. Make it a safe school year and follow the tips below.

The City of Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department is seeking the public's input on replacement playgrounds and shelters at two Iowa City parks. All proposed upgrades meet ADA requirements while improving access to primary park amenities. These year 2020 projects follow the recommendations of the 2017 Iowa City Park Master Plan. Comments on the proposed designs will be accepted through paper or online form below until Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2019.

City approves five-year deer management plan; read resolution here

At the Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2019 City Council meeting, the Council approved a five-year plan to help manage the deer population in Iowa City.

The full resolution can be read online. The plan calls for one season of sharpshooting of deer by White Buffalo Incorporated, between Dec. 1, 2019 and March 31, 2020. Three bus routes will be altered by a large-scale emergency response training exercise on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2019 in Downtown Iowa City.

The Broadway route and the Crosspark route will be altered both outbound and inbound. The Mall inbound route will also be changed.

Public input sought for new playground at Scott Park

The image above shows the current playground equipment at Scott Park.

The City of Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department is seeking the public's input on a new playground and shelter at Scott Park, 540 S. Scott Boulevard.

The Scott Park picnic shelter and playground are scheduled for renovations in 2020. The intention is to replace the shelter with a design specified in the 2017 Iowa City Park Master Plan. No changes are anticipated to Rita's Ranch Off-leash Dog Park, trails, athletic fields, stream bank, or parking lot.
