The City of Iowa City Public Art Advisory Committee (PAAC) announces a new program that provides up to $2,000 in matching funds for public art projects. Funded through the Iowa City Public Art Program, visual, audio, or performance-based art such as sculpture, murals, performances, readings, interactive exhibits, video projections, soundscapes, spoken word, and other mediums will be considered.

UI School of Music Presentation at ICPL

David Gier, director of the University of Iowa School of Music, will update the progress of the Voxman Music Building during a lunchtime presentation from noon to 1 p.m. Monday. Nov. 2, in Meeting Room A at the Iowa City Public Library.

Doors will open at 11:30 a.m. A sack lunch from Mama’s Deli & Catering will be provided to the first 50 people.

This presentation is part of the Library’s Music is the Word series to welcome the School of Music to downtown Iowa City. The school is expected to open in the fall of 2016, adding to the community’s vibrant local music scene...

Election day voting schedule

The City Council election is November 3, 2015, and four Council seats will be on the ballot. All Iowa City voters will have the same contests on the ballot, and may vote on both of the district races and the at large race.

Person wishing to vote early may do so in person at the Auditor's Office, 913 South Dubuque Street weekdays 7:45 - 5:30 through Monday, November 2.

The City of Iowa City's leaf vacuuming program will be operating on some one-way streets next Tuesday, Nov. 3, requiring the Streets Division to utilize a police escort. The following streets are scheduled for pick-up:

Iowa City’s Trick-or-Treat Night will take place this Saturday, Oct. 31 from dusk to 8 p.m. Trick-or-treaters and their chaperones are reminded to take extra safety precautions on Halloween, as kids will be hitting the streets around the same time that Hawkeye fans will be exiting the Iowa - Maryland football game at Kinnick Stadium. The football game begins at 2:30 p.m. that day.

Neighborhoods in the immediate vicinity of the stadium are located in the community of University Heights, which has moved its trick-or-treat night to Friday, Oct. 30 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Don’t just throw out that pumpkin after Halloween! The City of Iowa City Solid Waste Division reminds you to compost it instead.

Pumpkins must be placed in a City of Iowa City yard waste bag or a container with a current yard waste sticker. There is a 50-pound weight limit per bag. Pumpkins should not be put in your regular household garbage container.

Yard waste bags, priced at $1.25 each, are available for purchase at participating Iowa City grocery, hardware and general merchandise stores, and at the Iowa City City Hall Cashier (410 E. Washington St.). Generic paper yard...
