On Monday, Feb. 24, 2020, City Manager Geoff Fruin appointed Captain Bill Campbell to serve as Interim Police Chief, effective immediately.

The appointment follows the departure of current Police Chief Jody Matherly, who previously announced his retirement from the Iowa City Police Department earlier this month.

Captain Campbell was hired by the Iowa City Police Department on April 27, 1990, and served as a patrol officer and field training officer before being promoted to the rank of sergeant on December 22, 1996.

Iowa City residents and visitors can now charge their electric vehicles while parked in the Court Street Transportation Center, 150 E. Court St.

Users will need to download the ChargePoint app to their smartphone to activate the charger. Each port has a maximum of 6.2 kW available.

This adds to the EV infrastructure already available at the Capitol Street, Dubuque Street, Harrison Street, and Swan Ramp parking facilities. Installation of an EV charging station in the Tower Place Parking Ramp is scheduled for spring.
