Iowa City sees decrease in shots fired incidents in 2021

While the City of Iowa City continues to be a safe place to live, work, and explore our vibrant community, it is not immune to acts of gun violence. Addressing gun violence is among the Iowa City Police Department's highest priorities and the department is pleased to report a decrease in confirmed criminal shots fired incidents in 2021 compared to the year before.

Here are the three-year gun violence statistics in the City:

Iowa City’s annual long-term debt disclosure report, which provides information on the City’s outstanding long-term debt, debt compliance, utility systems, debt statistics, and other relevant information is now available on the City’s website at www.icgov.org/budget .

Two City Councilors will hold an online Listening Post from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31, 2022.

Beginning Monday, Jan. 24, 2022, Iowa City Transit will introduce four electric buses to the streets of Iowa City, purchased with the assistance of a $3.3 million in Federal Transit Administration and Iowa DOT grants. As part of several major changes to Iowa City Transit in the past year, this launch will have an immediate environmental impact. The buses will be able to travel over 300 miles on a single charge. Beginning Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2022, matching funds of up to $3,000 for public arts projects will be available to local artists, the City of Iowa City Public Art Advisory Committee (PAAC) announced.

Crews will remove snow in Downtown Iowa City overnight Monday, Jan. 17, 2022, beginning at 2 a.m. Vehicles parked in tow-away zones will be removed.

Towing will impact Prentiss Street to Market Street, Madison Street to Gilbert Street, as well as N. Clinton Street from Market Street to Church Street. The parking in these areas are metered spots, which do not permit parking from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. Follow all posted parking signs to prevent your vehicle from being towed.
