There is currently one vacancy with a term ending Jan. 1, 2020. The commission meets once a month for regularly scheduled meetings.

Iowa City notice of annual suspension of yard waste service

The City of Iowa City will be suspending weekly route yard waste services beginning Friday, January 27 through Monday, March 13, 2017. This service adjustment is done annually in order to conserve fuel and limit expenses during late winter when there is minimal use of the service. However, yard waste service will be offered during this period by appointment only. Customers may call 319-356-5151 at least 24 hours prior to their regular collection day to request pick up service.

Historic Preservation Commission awarded National Park Service Civil Rights Grant

The Iowa City Historic Preservation Commission has been awarded a Civil Rights Grant from the National Park Service. This grant will be used to help fund the nomination of Iowa City’s Tate Arms rooming house and the Iowa Federation Home Dormitory, to the National Register of Historic Places. The $16,000 grant will also be used to produce educational material to promote their significance in the history of civil rights in Iowa.

The City of Iowa City will host the first of a series of open house events to discuss the Iowa City Bicycle Master Plan and gather input from community residents regarding local bicycling conditions. The first meeting will happen Thursday, Jan. 26 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Senior Center 28 South Linn Street.

The City is currently in the early stages of creating a Bicycle Master Plan that will guide future investments to make bicycling safer, easier, and more convenient for residents of all ages and abilities.

Effective Thursday, January 12, 2017 Iowa City Transit buses will not service bus stop 8123, located at the intersection of Benton Street and Oaknoll Drive, due to utility work being done at that location. Customers who normally use this stop should use stop number 8122 located adjacent to the Seville Apartment complex on Benton Street as an alternate.
