The City of Iowa City’s Public Art Advisory Committee (PAAC) has expanded the Iowa City Sculpture Showcase, meaning more opportunities for local Iowa sculptors to showcase their work for one year throughout the City!

The Sculpture Showcase was started in 2021 with five locations created throughout town to display the work of local sculptors. This year, there will be eight locations scattered throughout the community at Terry Trueblood Recreation Area, along the Iowa River Trail, in Riverfront Crossings Park, and at Mercer and Scott parks....

Iowa City Parks and Recreation Summer Camp registration opens Tuesday, March 29 for Iowa City residents and Wednesday, March 30, 2022, for nonresidents.

Children who were at least five years old on September 15, 2021, and have completed any grade, K-6, can register.

The Summer Camp is rooted in Environmental Education and Nature. Located at the Ned Ashton House, campers will be engaging in Earth Science, campfire cooking, fishing, nature-based STEAM activities, creating unique art, swimming, and more! The Ned Ashton house is located at 820 Park Road.

Weather permitting, travel on the following street will be impacted beginning on Monday, March 21, 2022. It is anticipated that normal traffic will resume August, 31st.

Second Avenue, between D Street and F Street Closed to through traffic. A detour route will be posted Access to residences will be maintained at all times Court Hill Trail will be closed. A signed detour will be provided.

This traffic pattern change and trail impact will accommodate the Second Avenue Bridge Replacement Project.

City of Iowa City receives collaborative grant to explore ways to advance equity in affordable housing policy

The City of Iowa City will collaborate with the cities of Henderson, Nev.; and Eau Claire, Wis. on a shared research project to learn about effective housing policy thanks to a collaborative grant from the Reinvestment Fund.

Reinvestment Fund announced $173,000 in grant awards to the collaboration teams of Invest Heath cities earlier this month. The grant provides up to $33,000 to six different collaborations representing 16 cities.

American Legion Road construction begins March 21; follow posted detours

Weather permitting, starting on Monday, March 21, 2022, American Legion Road will be closed to through traffic 200 feet east of Buckingham Lane to Arlington Drive. This is in addition to the closure from Arlington Drive to Barrington Road that went into effect last fall.

This closure will facilitate utility and pavement reconstruction associated with the American Legion Road Improvements Project. A detour route will be posted utilizing Scott Boulevard, Court Street and Taft Avenue. It is anticipated that this phase of the project will be completed by August 31, 2022.
