Time to break out the sunscreen and bathing suits. City Park Pool and the spray/splash pads at Wetherby, Fairmeadows, and Tower Court Parks will open to the public Memorial Day Weekend. City Park Pool will open Saturday, May 25, 2019 while Iowa City splash/spray pads will open Monday, May 27.

2019 marks 70 years of City Park Pool operations. City Park Pool opened its doors for the first time on June 11, 1949. The Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department will celebrate City Park Pool's 70th birthday all summer long with special events and other activities.

In addition to celebrating 70 years of operations, City Park Pool will expand weekend hours. The pool will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays allowing for an additional five hours of lap swim each day. City Park Pool will have modified hours Tuesday through Friday, May 28-31, with normal operating hours beginning on Saturday, June 1. Visit www.icgov.org/pools for detailed pool schedules. 

Also new in 2019, private rentals for birthday parties, reunions, and other social gatherings will be available on Saturday and Sunday evenings from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Visit www.icgov.org/youthsportinfo for more information.  

The City Park Pool is located outdoors on Park Road in Upper City Park on the northwest side of Iowa City. Admission is $4 per person, and $2 per person from 5-8 p.m. for Twilight swim Monday through Friday. Children 2 years-old and younger swim for no fee. Thirty-day and annual passes are available for families and individuals. These passes grant access to all Iowa City pools including Robert A. Lee, Mercer Park Aquatic Center and City Park.

Iowa City splash/spray pads are open daily, 9 a.m.to 8 p.m., beginning Monday, May 27 through Labor Day, Monday, September 2. There is no fee to use spray/splash pads. Spray/splash pad locations include:
