The City of Iowa City's Office of Equity and Human Rights is hosting two free fair housing training sessions - introductory and intermediate - in April. The introductory training is presented by the Iowa Civil Rights Commission and the intermediate training is by the Fair Housing Institute, Inc. The trainings are held in recognition of the 54th Anniversary of the Fair Housing Act of 1968.

Both trainings will be available via Zoom. Both are applicable to single family, market rate, low income housing tax credit, rental assistance demonstration, HUD subsidized landlords, property managers, and owners.

Introductory training

The online introductory training will take place on Wed., April 13, 2022, from 9-11 a.m. The training will include information about the protected classes and prohibited practices delineated by state fair housing laws.

Brenna Bormann, a Civil Rights Specialist for the Iowa Civil Rights Commission, will conduct the training. This is considered an introductory course on fair housing under the state of Iowa's civil rights laws.
