Animal Services seeks assistance identifying dog’s owner following bite

On Sunday, June 28, 2020, Iowa City Animal Services received notification of a resident who was bitten by a dog.

According to the information provided, the bite occurred around 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, 2020 in an alley north of Mercy Hospital near a red dumpster. The dog is described as white and black, of medium size, and possibly a terrier/pug mix with a curly tail.

Iowa City Animal Services is seeking information regarding the rabies vaccination. If anyone has any information about the identity of the owner, they are encouraged to contact Iowa City Animal Services...

City taking precautionary steps as Army Corps of Engineers increases reservoir outflows

Due to recent heavy rains in the Iowa River Basin, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has increased its outflow from the Coralville Lake Reservoir from 6,000 cubic feet per second (cfs) to 10,000 cfs.

Due to this change, residents may notice increased water levels along the Iowa River. Low lying areas in Iowa City, including some parks and trails, can be impacted at these outflow rates. There is currently no major flooding event expected with this outflow change.

The Parks and Recreation Department has installed salsa ingredients in planters throughout the City of Iowa City.

This follows multiple years of populating planters throughout our community with edible ingredients that any community member can use. Previous years included plants for tea and plants for salads.

The Iowa City in-person Farmers Market will retains its digital format for the 2020 season. The traditional market was originally postponed until Saturday, July 4, 2020, and expected to open with COVID-19 health and safety precautions in place.

The difficult decision to cancel the in-person market was made due to recent increases in confirmed coronavirus cases in Johnson County.

Party in the Park events suspended until further notice

The City has canceled the two Party in the Park events scheduled for June 25 and July 2, 2020.

Following a recent rise in positive COVID-19 cases in Johnson County, and after careful consideration for the health, safety and well-being of our community, the Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department decided to cancel the events.

The programs were scheduled for Thursday, June 25, and Thursday, July 2, 2020, at Mercer Park and Terry Trueblood Recreation Area respectively. Whether or not future Party in the Park events will take place will be decided at a later date.

A four-piece sculptural art piece titled “Emergence” was recently installed in Creekside Park by Iowa artist Cara Briggs Farmer of Synergy Metalworks.

The project is a collaboration with the Iowa City Public Art Advisory Committee, the Parks and Recreation Department, Backyard Abundance, and neighbors of Creekside Park.
