The City of Iowa City is accepting applications for a grant program designed to advance social justice and racial equity in the community beginning on Dec. 1, 2021.

This grant opportunity is available to Iowa City-based organizations, both non and for profit, with the purpose of encouraging, empowering, and engaging social justice and racial equity initiatives through programs, activities, or services that help eliminate inequities in the Iowa City community.

A new Iowa City Police officer was sworn in during a ceremony Monday, Nov. 29, 2021, in Emma Harvat Hall.

Officer Lexi Kohl is from the city of Dubuque. She earned her bachelors degree in criminology from the University of Iowa.

Officer Kohl will attend the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in early 2022, and upon graduation will enter into the police department's field training program.

Thanksgiving is nearly here and across the community, people will be gathering to eat and share their gratitude. It's also a time to be extra mindful of safety in your home. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), more home cooking fires occur on Thanksgiving nationwide than any other day of the year. Iowa City Parks and Recreation has wrapped up the first phase of public engagement for the Gather Here Recreation Master Plan. During the first phase, the department collected public feedback through in-person planned and pop-up events, passive feedback opportunities, and through online surveys and discussion boards.
