11-Rochester route to detour due to road work beginning Aug. 19

Beginning Friday, Aug. 19, 2022, the 11-Rochester route will detour inbound and outbound due to road work closing Rochester Avenue between Montrose Avenue and Windsor Drive. The Rochester route will use Jefferson Street to Glendale Road to Ashwood Drive for inbound and outbound travel. The work is expected to be ongoing through November 2022.

Weather pending, the initial road closure for the Rochester Avenue Reconstruction Project is set to begin Friday, Aug. 19, 2022.

The project will Rochester from Ralston Creek to Windsor Drive beginning Aug. 19, as part of Stage 1 of the project. Work in that area is slated to last through Nov. 2022, with the road reopening for the winter season.

Iowa City Police make arrest after robbery, standoff

At 6:04 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 3, Iowa City Police made a traffic stop in the area of South Riverside Drive and Highway 6 East. During the traffic stop, the driver- later identified as Rick L. Wappler, 41, of Wisconsin - indicated he was armed with a knife.

Wappler fled the scene in the vehicle and a pursuit involving Iowa City police and the Johnson County Sheriff's Office ensued. The pursuit was ended due to the risk to public safety.

The Tower Place Parking Ramp will be closed for hourly parking beginning 5:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8, 2022, to continue the ramp maintenance project. Repairs are expected to last for a week.

Permit parking will be available during this time, however drivers should pay close attention to the signed detours within the facility.

The construction of the First Avenue and Scott Boulevard roundabout will continue through early September due to various delays associated with the project.

The City has been working with the contractor throughout these delays in order to reach completion as quickly as possible.

Upcoming intersection closure
