A neighborhood public input meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 12, 2020, at Creekside Park, 1858 7th Avenue Court, to discuss a public art project at the park. The gathering will be held at the shelter area.
A major renovation of Creekside Park was completed last fall, and an art installation funded through the Iowa City Public Art Program is set to be added.
To compliment the Community Orchard area designed by Backyard Abundance and area residents, Cara Briggs Farmer of Synergy Metalworks has been commissioned to create the artwork. She recently completed the “Three Sisters” art installation at Chadek Green Park as part of the community garden design at the park.
Briggs Farmer will create several concepts for consideration and will seek feedback from Creekside Park neighbors and visitors. The goal is to finalize the design, and then create and install the artwork this spring in coordination with the final planting of the orchard.
An assortment of fruit trees, berry bushes, a butterfly garden, and other perennial edibles are included in the orchard. More information about Backyard Abundance can be found on their website.
Residents should dress appropriately in case of cold outdoor temperatures. Visit our website to see the park's illustrated Master Plan.
