The rehabilitation of a small 1800s-era grocery store on Bowery Street in Iowa City will be recognized this week for the exceptional historic preservation efforts undertaken by its new owners. Preservation Iowa, a state-wide organization that supports preservation of historic structures, will award 518 Bowery a “Preservation at Its Best Award” in the commercial category during its annual summit, scheduled June 25-27 in Winterset. The organization will recognize projects in residential, public, sustainability, adaptive use, and rural preservation categories.

Benton Hill Park, located at Benton Street and Miller Avenue, will be the host site of Party in the Park on Thursday, June 18. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and join other neighbors from 6:30 to 8 p.m. for live music by Bluestem Trio, as well as games, arts and crafts, and ice cream. This is a no-fee event and is open to the public. Party in the Park is sponsored by the City of Iowa City's Parks and Recreation Department and the Neighborhood Outreach Division.
