Celebrate the last month of fun in the sun with Sunday Fun Days at the Iowa City Public Library!

Sunday Fun Day features fun activities for families to enjoy together. Each day has a theme with stories, crafts or games to celebrate it.

Sunday Fun Day happens every Sunday except the first Sunday of the month. That afternoon is reserved for Sit, Stay, R.E.A.D. with Therapy Dogs of Johnson County, held from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Storytime Room.

Five "National Night Out" events are scheduled in Iowa City on Tuesday, Aug. 4 as part of a nationwide effort to heighten crime and drug-prevention awareness, strengthen communities, build partnerships between neighborhoods and the Police Department, and send a message that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back against crime. There are many surprises in store for those that get involved in genealogical research. In August, the Iowa City Public Library is hosting classes for those that are interested in starting research into their family tree.

Not sure how to start searching for your ancestors? Come join us for an Introduction to Genealogy on Friday, Aug. 7, at 2 p.m. A librarian will help you get started by talking about what questions to ask, how to keep track of your information, and places you might want to search.

Weather permitting, beginning on Wednesday, July 29, the westbound left turn lane on Melrose Avenue, at its intersection with Melrose Court will be closed. However, turning traffic will be maintained. This turning lane closure is necessary to facilitate pavement repair in the area. It is anticipated the work will be completed by Friday, July 31.

Motorists are to take note of this construction and to allow extra travel time as delays may occur. As always, caution should be exercised when traveling through all construction areas.
