Mayor's face covering order extended to Nov. 13

Mayor Bruce Teague has extended an order that was originally put into place July 21, 2020, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The extended order requires that every person in the City of Iowa City must wear a face covering when in a public place.

The order, extended on Monday, Sept. 14, 2020, states that a face covering that covers the nose and mouth must be worn in all public spaces until Friday, Nov. 13, 2020. The order in its entirety can be read online...

Update: The construction project that will close Rita's Ranch Dog Park has been delayed due to continued rain. The site will now close for a week starting Thursday, Sept. 16, 2020.

Weather permitting, beginning on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2020, Rita’s Ranch Dog Park will be closed to the public.

The closure will facilitate the installation of storm sewer through the park. It is anticipated that the work will take about one week to be completed and the park will reopen on Friday, September 24, 2020.

S. Riverside Drive storm debris disposal site temporarily closed due to rain, site conditions

On August 14, the City opened a temporary disposal site for yard debris at the lot south of the Iowa City Transit facilities at 1200 S. Riverside Drive. Due to the conditions of the dumping area caused by continued rain, the site will be temporarily closed through Monday, Sept. 14.

Pending further precipitation, the South Riverside site will reopen 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday, Sept. 14, 2020 through Wednesday, Sept. 30. There are no size limitations or bundling requirements on limbs or branches.

Members of the Iowa City City Council will hold a Listening Post at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2020, at Mercer Park, 2701 Bradford Drive. Recycling drop-off site at 1201 N. Dodge moving to 1200 S. Riverside Drive effective September 21

The recycling drop-off bins at 1201 North Dodge St. (former location of Hy-Vee) will be moving to City-owned property at 1200 South Riverside Dr.

Due to anticipated future uses for the current recycling center’s building and site, which is owned by Hy-Vee, the bins will be moved on Monday, Sept. 21, 2020. The North Dodge site will no longer accept recycling at that time.

Police seek public's help in identifying person of interest in assault investigation

The Iowa City Police Department is asking for the public's help in identifying a person of interest in an assault investigation. Detectives were able to obtain the image below taken from nearby video surveillance.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
