The poster for the movie "The True Cost."

Join the City of Iowa City and Iowa City Public Library in celebration of America Recycles Day for a film screening of the documentary “The True Cost.”

The screening will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, 2019, in the Iowa City Public Library's Meeting Room A.

"The True Cost" is a 2015 documentary centered on the environmental and personal impacts of the fashion industry and the influx of cheaper clothing products. Filmed in countries around the world where many clothing items are made, the documentary shows that much less glitzy, and environmentally damaging, side of the fashion industry.

The screening is free and open to the public. Complimentary popcorn will be served.

To reduce your personal fashion impacts on the environment, consider these tips:

  • Buy quality clothing that will last.
  • Mend and repair clothing that you own.
  • Donate clothing you no longer need to secondhand and consignment stores and shop secondhand. View the Iowa City Area Resale and Consignment Directory for a full list of local stores.
