Grab your costume and join the Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department, University of Iowa Departments of Education, Engineering, and Healthcare; the Iowa Children's Museum, and FilmScene for a family-friendly night of Halloween fun!

The Halloween Carnival will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, 2021, on the ground floor of the Chauncey Swan Parking Ramp. At 7 p.m., FilmScene in the Park will host a free, outdoor screening of the classic 1990s Halloween movie, "Hocus Pocus" at the neighboring Chauncey Swan Park.

Police identify person believed to be responsible for Oct. 17 gunshot that critically injured driver

Following the investigation into the Oct. 17, 2021, car crash in which the driver was discovered to be suffering from a gunshot wound, Iowa City Police have identified the person believed to be responsible for the driver's injury. Police believe the shooting was unintentional and there is no threat to public safety.

No arrests have been made at this time and the investigation is ongoing. No other information will be released at this time.

Iowa City’s quarterly finance report for the quarter that ended September 30, 2021, is now available at www.icgov.org/budget. This report provides information on the City’s fund balances, revenues, and expenditures compared to budgeted amounts and budget variances.

The quarterly finance report is required by the City Council’s Financial and Fiscal Policies.

Person of interest identified following investigation into driver suffering from gunshot wound

Iowa City Police have identified a person of interest following an investigation into the Oct. 17, 2021, car crash in which the driver was discovered to be suffering from a gunshot wound. No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing. However, police do not believe there is an active threat to the public related to this incident.

The victim remains in critical condition at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

No other information is available at this time.

The 23rd Annual Pat Meyer Vision Award ceremony will take place Thursday, Oct. 28, 2021, at the Iowa City Public Library.

The Johnson County Coalition Against Domestic Violence (JCCADV) observes Domestic Violence Awareness Month each year by awarding the Pat Meyer Vision Award to a local individual and organization for their work to prevent or end domestic violence or their support of survivors. The award is named for Pat Meyer, who founded the first domestic violence shelter in Iowa City and was the first director of the Domestic Violence Intervention Program (DVIP).

Run for the Schools, a run benefiting students from the Iowa City Community School District and Regina Catholic Education Center, will take place Sunday, Oct. 24, 2021.

Several roads will close for the half-mile, mile, 5K, 10K, and half-marathon races. Road closures will begin at 4 a.m. and all roads are anticipated to reopen by noon. No parking signs will be posted along the route and vehicles not moved before 3 a.m. will be towed.
