Come fly a kite in honor of children in Johnson County who have been impacted by child abuse. 
2017 Kites for Kids Flyer

The Johnson County Community Partnership for Protecting Children is teaming up with the Prevent Child Abuse—Johnson County Council, and many other local businesses and organizations to commemorate Child Abuse Prevention Month with Kites for Kids, a children's festival. 

Kids and families will be flying kites on Saturday, April 22, 2017 from noon to 2 p.m. at Lower City Park, 200 Park Road, Shelter #5 in Iowa City. The event is free and open to everyone. Kites will be provides along with bubbles and refreshments. 

Iowa City Police Chief Jody Matherly will be at the event along with officers and investigators. 

Should it rain, the event will move to Saturday, April 29. 

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 683,000 children were victims of abuse and neglect in 2015; and 1,670 children died from the abuse.
