Iowa City's annual water quality report available online

The City of Iowa City has posted its newest water quality report, also known as the “Consumer Confidence Report” (CCR), to its website at www.icgov.org/ccreport . The report, which covers the year 2015, indicates that Iowa City drinking water far surpasses all federal and state drinking water quality standards.

Youth’s good deeds to be recognized at 13th Annual Human Rights Youth Awards

The public is invited to attend the 13th Annual Human Rights Youth Awards ceremony on Tuesday, May 10. The event, sponsored by the Iowa City Human Rights Commission, will be held at the Englert Theatre, 220 E. Washington Street, beginning at 7 p.m. There is no fee to attend.

Over 40 area youth who were nominated by members of the public for their promotion of and contributions to human rights causes locally or globally will be recognized. Iowa City Mayor James Throgmorton will deliver brief remarks at the ceremony.

Historic house to be moved on May 4

The historic Houser-Metzger House at 422 Iowa Avenue, which most recently served as a youth center for United Action for Youth (UAY), will be lifted from its current location at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, May 4, and moved across Iowa Avenue, through a City Hall parking lot, and then onto Van Buren, Washington, Dodge, and College Streets to its new location at 623 College Street. The move will halt traffic and leave the City’s parking lot inaccessible for part of the day. Willowwind School and Iowa City Parks and Recreation partner on Arbor Day program

On Friday, April 29, the Willowwind School campus will receive a facelift in the form of a new tree, provided through the Iowa City Parks and Forestry Division’s Arbor Day Program. This 37-year-old program aims to educate students on the benefits of trees, while offering them the hands-on experience of planting a tree themselves. This year, students from Willowwind will plant a Skyline Locust tree after a brief educational presentation and reading of the Arbor Day Proclamation, originally read at the Iowa City Council Meeting on April 19.
