Come celebrate the winter solstice with friends, family, and Parks and Recreation staff at the Winter Solstice Festival of Light, scheduled Dec. 19 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center, 220 S. Gilbert. Street. This fun family event will feature arts and crafts, hot cider, and creating luminaries to light up the Discovery Garden as we celebrate the shortest day and longest night of the year! Opening and closing ceremonial bell ringing and drumming will be performed by the Yahoo Drummers.

The festival is open to the public, and there is no charge to participate. Pre-registration is encouraged so that we have enough materials on hand, but it is not required. To pre-register, visit (activity number 4811) or by phone at 319-356-5100.

For more information, visit or contact the Information Desk at 319-356-5100.
