Effective Monday, June 15, 2020, Iowa City Transit will return to the normal weekday summer service schedule.
Hours of operation will be 6 a.m. – 10:30 p.m. Monday- Friday, and 6 a.m. – 7 p.m. on Saturdays. The Downtown Shuttle and Eastside Loop, which typically do not run during the summer, will not resume until the University of Iowa and the Iowa City Community School District are in session. Fare collection will also resume and riders will be asked to board through the front of the bus.
Iowa City Transit is continuing processes put in place to promote the health and safety of our employees and riders.
- Transit will continue to perform deep cleaning and sanitization of buses and transit facilities multiple times per day.
- Plastic barriers have been installed near the driver area to promote social-distancing and better separate the driver area from the rest of the bus.
- Bus drivers will be wearing masks and/or face shields to protect the public and themselves.
The City strongly recommends all customers wear a cloth mask and socially-distance at transit stops while boarding and on the bus. Cloth masks are available for the public free of charge at our Parking Office located at 335 Iowa Avenue, while supplies last.
Iowa City Transit will continue to monitor bus ridership and capacity on busier routes and consider adjustments as necessary to better accommodate social distancing.
These protective actions will help meet public health objectives and help keep employees and the public healthy while continuing to provide essential transportation services to the community.
