Small nonfarm businesses in 12 Iowa counties and a neighboring county in Illinois are now eligible to apply for low‑interest federal disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration, announced Director Tanya N. Garfield of SBA’s Disaster Field Operations Center-West. These loans offset economic losses because of reduced revenues caused by the derecho in the following primary counties that occurred Aug. 10, 2020.

City of Iowa City administrative offices at City Hall, 410 E. Washington St., are currently closed to the public due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In observance of the Veterans Day holiday on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2020, additional closures and changes to schedules have been updated.

To honor those who have served, Transit is offering complimentary rides to veterans and their families on Wednesday. Riders are asked to show a military ID or other identification that indicates veteran status.

Iowa City’s Streets Division is anticipating that leaf crews will be able to complete one-and-a-half to two zones per day for the first few weeks of the leaf vacuum program.

Iowa City Police search for suspects in recent shootings

On Thursday, Oct. 22, 2020, at approximately 9:40 p.m., Iowa City Police responded to the 700 block of Westwinds Drive in Iowa City for multiple reports of shots fired. Officers did not locate anything at the time; however, a witness reported to police that a silver sedan was in the area, drove off, then returned and a shot was fired. The vehicle then sped off. Officers did not receive any reports of anyone injured by the gunfire and no suspect description is available at this time.

The City of Iowa City’s organics (yard and food waste) program accepts pumpkins. Here's the proper way to compost your pumpkins or seasonal gourds:
