Iowa City Parks and Recreation has been selected to receive a $2,500 Rockwell Collins Green Communities grant that will go toward a Monarch butterfly rearing tent and pollinator education efforts.

Green Communities is a grant program that helps fund environmental projects in communities where Rockwell Collins operates. With this year’s projects, the company will have awarded a total of 614 projects valued at $1,061,000 since the program began in 2004.

"We are thankful to Rockwell for supporting our community efforts to increase the monarch population, while providing an educational venue for our children and families," said Iowa City Parks and Recreation Director Juli Seydell Johnson.
