Just in time for your holiday shopping needs, parking ramps throughout Downtown Iowa City will be free Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

Below is a breakdown for all parking and transit changes during the holiday weekend.

Due to issues related to the locker room renovation, the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center will close to the public beginning at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 25, 2019, and will remain closed until 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 29.

The City of Iowa City will be accepting applications for a grant program designed to advance social justice and racial equity in the community starting in December.

This grant opportunity is available to Iowa City-based organizations, both non and for profit, with the purpose of encouraging, empowering, and engaging social justice and racial equity initiatives through programs, activities, or services that help eliminate inequities in the Iowa City community.

Robert A. Lee pool to close Friday for repairs

Beginning at noon Friday, Nov. 22, 2019, the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center Pool will close for a mechanical pump and motor repair.

The pool is scheduled to reopen at 6:15 a.m. Monday, Dec. 2, 2019.

Fire Department welcomes new firefighter, an Iowa City native

On Friday, Nov. 15, 2019, the Iowa City Fire Department welcomed a new firefighter Maria Koeppel during a badge pinning ceremony.

Koeppel was born and raised in Iowa City, and returns to town after serving as a firefighter in Lee's Summit, Missouri. She officially joined the City on Monday, Oct. 7, 2019, then completed a six-week recruit academy, and will now work out of Fire Station 1 in Downtown Iowa City.

She has already received several certifications, including hazmat operations, and EMT training.

City begins deer population management activities

As part of its deer population management program, the City of Iowa City has placed deer crossing signage in the following locations:

Scott Boulevard, just west of Rochester Avenue Scott Boulevard, just east of North Dodge Street First Avenue, just south of Scott Boulevard First Avenue, just north of Rochester Avenue

There is likely to be increased deer activity in these areas in the coming weeks. As always, please use caution when driving in posted locations.
