The Iowa City Police Department recently learned, via a social media post, of a suspicious situation involving a possible fake rideshare driver.

The victim stated that while waiting for an Uber, she was approached by a man claiming he was her driver. When pressed for information that only authorized drivers would know, he was unable to answer the questions. The man then reportedly approached others in the area claiming to be their Uber driver.

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 6 ft. tall, with an earring and no facial hair.  He is believed to be in his early to mid-20s. The vehicle that was involved is black, but no further description was provided.

If you witness a similar situation, contact Iowa City Police immediately. The Police Department reminds all who use rideshare and taxi services to stay aware of their surroundings, and verify drivers and companies prior to entering a vehicle.
