Update: The Iowa City Police Department and the Johnson County Medical Examiner's Office have released the identity of the victim of the May 16, 2021 suspicious death in Iowa City. 

The victim has been identified as Frederick W. Rumble, 45, of Iowa City. Based on initial information, including the preliminary autopsy result provided by the Johnson County Medical Examiner’s Office, the manner of death in this incident is a homicide, with the cause of death to be injuries sustained from gunshot wounds.

This matter remains under investigation by the Iowa City Police Department, the Johnson County Attorney’s Office, and the Johnson County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The ICPD continues to request information from anyone who has information regarding this case. The Iowa City Area CrimeStoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the suspect or suspects in these matters. Individuals providing information do not have to reveal their identity to collect a reward.

On May 16, 2021, at 1:20 a.m., Iowa City Police Officers responded to the area of Sandusky Drive and Taylor Drive, Iowa City, to a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, Officers located an adult male victim with gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and was later pronounced deceased.
