On Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017, at approximately 10:46 p.m., Iowa City Police Officers responded to 917 N. Dodge St. for a report of someone entering the home and struggling with an occupant. According to victims, two males forcefully entered the home and demanded drugs. Police were able to take 25-year-old Kelwin Latrell Dawley into custody as he attempted to leave the residence, but the other subject was gone upon officers’ arrival.

The male who fled prior to officers’ arrival was said to have been armed with a small handgun and is described as a 6 foot 1 inch tall black male, in his mid 50’s with greying hair and beard, weighing approximately 260 pounds and wearing a black shirt.

This criminal investigation is ongoing and criminal charges are pending.
