Iowa City Police are investigating an armed robbery that happened early Thursday morning. 

On Thurs. Aug. 4, 2016, just before 1 a.m., officers responded to McDonald's, located at 2440 Mormon Trek Blvd, for a report of an armed robbery. Witnesses told authorities that the restaurant had been robbed by a black male with a handgun.  

The victims said they were leaving the business when the suspect approached them, showed a handgun and forced them at gunpoint back into the store.  The suspect then forced the victims to hand over an undisclosed amount of cash and/or property. 

The suspect is described as a 6 foot slender black male who was wearing a black hoodie, black gloves, sweat pants. A black and white mask covered most of his face.  The suspect then left the business and fled in an unknown direction.  No one was hurt. 

This incident remains under investigation and the Iowa City Police Department is requesting the assistance of the public.  Connections to other similar crimes in the area is also being investigated.
