Iowa City Police officers are requesting the public's help as they continue to investigate a strong armed robbery. 

Just before 1:15 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017, police received a report of a strong armed robbery that happened at about 11:15 p.m. The victim told officers two men approached him while he was walking in the alleyway behind New Pioneer Food Co-op, located at 22 S. Van Buren Street. The victim said one of the men then assaulted him and both men demanded his phone and wallet. The men ran away with an undisclosed amount of cash and property. The victim ran home to safety before calling police. 

The suspect who assaulted the victim is described as a black male, roughly 6' 0'' tall with a muscular build, short buzzed hair and was wearing a white and navy blue crew-neck style shirt. The other suspect is described as a while male, roughly 6'0'' tall with light, brown scruffy hair and was wearing a black baseball cap and a grey sweater or sweatshirt.  

The victim is OK and did not require emergency medical treatment. 

This incident remains under investigation. The Iowa City Police Department is requesting the assistance of the public. Iowa City Area CrimeStoppers is offering a reward up to a $1,000 for information leading to an arrest.  Anyone with information about this crime is urged to contact CrimeStoppers at 358-TIPS (8477). All calls are held in strict confidence and anonymity is guaranteed. Individuals providing information do not have to reveal their identity to collect a reward.
