Anthony Michael Long
Between May 27 and June 8, 2015 the Iowa City Police Department received five separate reports of a suspect that would be on a bicycle, ride past female victims, and then approach the victims from behind, whereupon he would grab the victim’s genital and buttocks area. The suspect was described as a heavy set, white male, approximately 40 years of age. These incidents were reported to have occurred on the west side of Iowa City within close proximity to Willow Creek Park.

Over the course of the investigation, the Iowa City Police Department deployed multiple assets to further the investigation including the usage of extra patrols, bicycle officers and plain clothes female officers. On June 9, 2015, while conducting surveillance in the area of the reported assaults, officers located a suspect matching the description provided by the victims. The suspect was identified as Anthony Michael Long, age 44, of 2545 Clearwater Court, Iowa City.

Further investigation into Long, and with the cooperation of the victims in this matter, led to Long being charged with four separate counts of Assault with Intent to Commit Sexual Abuse, all aggravated misdemeanors. Long was taken into custody on June 24, 2015 and transported to the Johnson County Jail without incident.

This matter remains under investigation and additional charges are pending. The Iowa City Police Department strongly encourages anyone that may have been victim in similar incidents, or any additional witnesses, to contact Investigator Andy Rich at 319-356-5452 or Andrew-Rich@iowa-city.org.
