On Thursday, Dec. 29, 2016, Iowa City Police Department Acting Police Chief Bill Campbell swore in Isaac Hoffman, Aaron Mitchell, Anthony Owens, and Trai Bunch as Officers during a ceremony at Emma J. Harvat Hall.
Officer Hoffmann, 25, originally from Manchester is a 2013 graduate of the University of Northern Iowa with B.A. degree in criminology. Prior to attending UNI, Officer Hoffmann served in the U.S. Army assigned to the 82nd Airborne division while achieving the rank of Sergeant. Officer Hoffmann has been assigned badge #14.
Officer Mitchell, 23, originally from New London is a 2013 graduate of Indian Hills Community College with an A.A. degree and a 2015 graduate from Buena Vista University with a B.A. degree, majoring in criminal justice and psychology. Prior to employment with the Iowa City Police Department, Officer Mitchell worked at HyVee in Ottumwa. Officer Mitchell has been assigned badge #49.
Officer Anthony Owens, 21, is originally from Detroit, Michigan and has lived in the Iowa City area for the last two years. Prior to joining the Iowa City Police Department, Officer Owens was a criminal justice major at Kirkwood Community College and employed at Art Van Furniture. Officer Owens has been assigned badge #50.
Officer Trai Bunch, 23, originally from Waterloo, is a 2016 graduate of the University of Northern Iowa with a B.A. degree in sports psychology. While at UNI, Officer Bunch was a student athlete running cross country and track and field. Prior to employment with the Iowa City Police Department, Officer Bunch was employed with the CBE group and as a camp counselor for the Meskwaki settlement. Officer Bunch has been assigned badge #63.
Officers Hoffmann, Mitchell, Owens, and Bunch will begin training at the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy on Jan. 3, 2017 with a pending graduation date of April 14, 2017. Prior to a permanent assignment, all four Officers will participate in the Iowa City Police Department’s field training program.
