Meet the members of the new Climate Action Commission

In September 2019 the Iowa City Council authorized the creation of a new, 11-member Climate Action Commission. After an application and selection period, the members of the new commission met for the first time in December 2019.

Members are: Madeleine Bradley, John Fraser, Stratis Giannakouros with the University of Iowa, Grace Holbrook, Kasey Hutchinson, GT Karr, Matt Krieger as Commission Chair, Jesse Leckband representing MidAmerican Energy, Katie Sarsfield, Becky Soglin, and Eric Tate.

Iowa’s athletes have long impacted their teams, communities, and the sports they played.

African American athletes did so while facing off against more than just the opposing team. They fought for the right to equal treatment on and off the field.

A presentation called "More Than Just A Game" will highlight people such as Iowan and Olympian Thomas Hill, Drake University athlete Johnny Bright and his effect on the football helmet, and members of the Buxton Wonders, Iowa’s Negro League baseball team.

Iowa City’s annual long-term debt disclosure report, which provides information on the City’s outstanding long-term debt, debt compliance, utility systems, debt statistics, and other relevant information, is now available on the City’s website at www.icgov.org/budget.

This report is required by the City Council’s Debt Management Policy.

Washington St. entrance to Chauncey Swan Ramp closed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday

The Washington Street entrance to Chauncey Swan Parking Ramp will be closed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2020.

The closure allows for the installation of a Farmers Market art installation on and around the parking ramp.

Visitors can still enter and exit the parking ramp on the College Street entrance, or the entrance off of Burlington Street and through the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center’s parking lot.

After nearly a 37-year career in law enforcement, including over three years serving Iowa City, Police Chief Jody Matherly has announced his retirement.

Chief Matherly assumed the role of police chief on Jan. 23, 2017. Prior to his arrival in Iowa City, he served as police chief in the communities of Altoona and Grinnell. He also served as an officer, sergeant, and lieutenant with the Flint, Michigan Police Department.

The Iowa City Police Department annually presents three awards to recognize employees for their accomplishments during the previous year.
