The Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department is excited to announce a new lacrosse program coming to Mercer Park this spring!

The game of lacrosse is growing in popularity, and the US Lacrosse First Stick Program is a great place to introduce youth to lacrosse. The program will focus on the teaching fundamental skills including; cradling, scooping, throwing and catching while incorporating short sided games that are fast and full of excitement. All equipment will be provided.

A five-week program will meet Mondays beginning April 15 through May 13, 2019. Youth grades 2nd through 3rd grade will meet from 5 to 5:40 p.m. Youth grades 4th through 5th grade will meet from 5:45 to 6:35 p.m. Cost is $28 per child.

There will also be a one-time clinic on Sunday, April 28, 2019. Youth grades 2nd through 3rd grade will meet from 2 to 2:50 p.m. Youth grades 4th through 5th grade will meet from 3 to 4 p.m. Cost is $8 per child.

All programs/clinics will take place at Mercer Park, 2701 Bradford Drive.

These programs are made possible through the US Lacrosse First Stick grant. The First Stick program awards free lacrosse equipment to communities so affordable and accessible youth lacrosse activities can be provided to area youth.
