The first week of the virtual 2020 Iowa City Monarch Festival took flight on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2020.

To celebrate the first of four Sundays dedicated to helping increase the number of monarch butterflies in the area, the City shared the first video of a series dedicated to teaching residents how to raise monarchs from egg, to caterpillar, to chrysalis, to butterfly.

You can watch the full video online on YouTube. Next week's video will focus on how to care for a monarch caterpillar.

Need more help? Stop by icgov.org/ICMonarchs for more guides and information on how to attract or raise monarchs, including our "How to rear a monarch" guide.

Also this weekend, from noon to 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, 2020, at the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center's parking lot, will be a drive-thru pick-up for monarch-themed crafts. Perfect for kids, visit our online registration and pick a time and number of craft kits needed.

See you next week for week two of the Iowa City Monarch Festival!
