As part of the Mayor’s Walk series, beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 28, Mayor Jim Throgmorton will be participating in the "Tour de Farm" bike ride through the Lucas Farms neighborhood. The Tour/Walk will begin at 1609 DeForest Avenue, next to Mark Twain Elementary School, and take place from 1 to 4 p.m.

The inaugural “Tour de Farm” bike ride is scheduled with several historic stops throughout the neighborhood and will feature exhibits or child-friendly activities. Two routes will be offered -- a shorter one for families with young children, and a longer four-mile route that will include additional historic stops. No registration is needed. Helmets are required, and children must be accompanied by an adult.

Some of the historic points along the ride will include the Lucas show ring and old circus grounds, several historic Moffitt houses and stories of the people who lived in them, Victory Gardens, Dead Man’s Cave, and the former Florence Street vineyard.

The Tour de Farm event is part of a larger two-day celebration that will showcase Lucas Farms neighborhood’s rich history on Memorial Day weekend. For details about the celebration and a schedule of events, visit
