Leaf Vacuum Program to Begin Final Pass of the City

Leaf crews will begin the final pass of the City in Zone #1 after Zone #7 has been completed. We anticipate this being on either the afternoon of Wednesday, November 18th or the morning of Thursday, November 19th.

We will then proceed in numerical order and will move into Zone #2 after Zone #1 has been completed. Crews will not return to any of the zones once collection has been completed. Additionally, crews will not return for piles raked after the area has been collected or for piles not collected due to parked cars.

Governor requires masks in all indoor spaces open to the public starting Nov. 17, 2020

On Monday, Nov. 16, 2020, the Governor issued a new order mandating that masks be worn in all indoor spaces open to the public starting at midnight on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2020.

The mandate will be effective until Dec. 11, 2020. This measure comes as Johnson County and Iowa as a whole experiences a dramatic surge in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations.

Along with the mask order, the Governor issued several other mitigation efforts, including:

Prohibiting indoor gatherings of more than 15 people. Prohibiting outdoor gatherings of more than 30 people. Closing restaurants...

City of Iowa City administrative offices at City Hall, 410 E. Washington St., are currently closed to the public due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In observance of the Thanksgiving Day holiday, additional closures and changes to schedules have been updated.

Administrative offices at City Hall and other facilities will be closed Thursday, Nov. 26 and Friday, Nov. 27, 2020, for the Thanksgiving holiday. Online payments and a drop box for utility payments will remain available in the lobby at City Hall.

Mayor's face covering order extended to Jan. 15, 2021

Mayor Bruce Teague has extended an order that was originally put into place July 21, 2020, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The extended order requires that every person in the City of Iowa City must wear a face covering when in a public place.

The order, extended on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2020, states that a face covering that covers the nose and mouth must be worn in all public spaces until January 15, 2021.

On Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2020, the Governor updates the State's Public Health Emergency Declaration, extending all in-place health mitigation efforts through Nov. 30, 2020.

The latest declaration also added more mitigation efforts, including:

The Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department has been awarded a grant of $90,500 from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Resource Enhancement and Protection (REAP) program. This is the 12th REAP grant Iowa City Parks and Recreation has recently received.

REAP invests in projects that enhance and protect Iowa’s natural and cultural resources. In the program, 15% of REAP is set aside for grants to cities, while 20% is set aside for county conservation boards for projects that help establish natural areas, and encouraging outdoor recreation and resource management.
