Effective Wednesday, March 18, 2020, the Iowa City Landfill and Recycling Center, 3900 Hebl Ave. SW, will close to the general public through April 5, 2020. The City will evaluate recommendations from county, state and federal health experts before reopening facilities.

The Landfill will remain open to commercial waste haulers and contractors.

To dispose of waste during this time, the public is advised to use curbside services where available and public recycling drop-off sites.

East Side Recycling Center

Though the East Side Recycling Center remains open, the Environmental Education Center will be closed through April 30. Customers with reservations during that time will be contacted by City staff. Deposits and rental fees will be refunded or can be held for rescheduling at a future date.
