On Tuesday, August 2, 2016 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., residents in neighborhoods throughout Iowa City and across the nation, are invited to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police.

Many neighborhoods throughout Iowa City will be hosting a variety of special events such as block parties, cookouts, visits from the police, contests, youth activities and anti-crime rallies as part of National Night Out

National Night Out is designed to:

1) Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness
2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime efforts
3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships
4) Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back

Iowa City is preparing to host activities in several neighborhoods. Neighbors are encouraged to register their events by calling the Iowa City Crime Prevention Office 319-356-5273 or email: crime-prevention@iowa-city.org
