The Iowa City Human Rights Commission is seeking applicants to fill one vacancy with the term beginning upon appointment, and ending January 1, 2021.

Duties of the Commission include educating the public on human rights, making recommendations to the City Council for such further legislation concerning discrimination as it may deem necessary and desirable, and on funding selections for the Social Justice and Racial Equity Grant.

The Commission meets once a month in the evening, with special meetings scheduled when necessary. Service is on a volunteer basis.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and reside in Iowa City. Applications are available online at icgov.org/boardscommissionsandcommittees, or in the City Clerk's Office at City Hall, 410 E. Washington St. To have an application mailed to you, call 319-356-5022. 

Completed applications are due to the City Clerk by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, 2018.

State law requires that most boards and commissions be gender-balanced. Currently, five males and three females serve on the Human Rights Commission.
