Crews will begin paving the Upper City Park Entrance this afternoon, Fri. Aug. 5, 2016. The work will require drivers to use a different route to access the park for the next few days.
Signage will divert drivers to Templin Road. However, people can also get to the park by taking Holt Ave to Oakridge Ave.
Upper and Lower City Parks are also connected by stairs that are located between the historic cabins, east of the pool and the Riverside Festival Stage. People can use those stairs to get to the park as well.
A reminder when exiting Upper City Park: Upper City Park Drive is a one-way loop that is used heavily by pedestrians and cyclists, many of whom are children. Do not attempt to go the wrong-way.
The exit loop is open, however a temporary rock road has been placed that leads to the Park Road Bridge and Dubuque Street.
Park Road is expected to re-open in mid-August. However, the Gateway Project timeline is fluid and subject to change due to weather and other unforeseen delays.
The Iowa City Gateway Project is a flood mitigation effort that will elevate Dubuque Street while also raising and replacing the Park Road Bridge.
