At 6:54 p.m. on Wednesday, January 3, 2018, the Iowa City Fire Department responded to a building fire at 619 Bowery St., Iowa City.
Four minutes after receiving notification, the first unit arrived on scene and reported a working structure fire on the front porch on the building.
The occupants had noticed the fire and quickly exited prior to the fire department's arrival. The fire was quickly contained and extinguished. Damage was contained the exterior of the structure and no estimates are available at this time. No occupants were displaced.
A total of 20 firefighters responded to the initial alarm. Outside agency support and assistance were provided by the Iowa City Police Department, Johnson County Ambulance, and Mid-American Energy.
No one was hurt. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Iowa City Fire Department.
