Iowa City firefighters responded to an apartment fire on Tuesday, May 16, 2017. 

Firefighters received the call at about 6:30 p.m. that a kitchen was on fire at 740 Westgate St., Iowa City. Crews were able to quickly bring the fire undercontrol. 

The apartment occupants escaped unharmed, but firefighters helped someone in an adjacent unit. 

Sixteen firefighters responded to the fire and were assisted by the Iowa City Police Department, Johnson County Ambulance Service, MidAmerican Energy, and the American Red Cross. 

No one was hurt. Damage is estimated to be $10,000.
