The Iowa City Fire Department was dispatched at 2:19 p.m. on Friday, July 10 for a structure fire in a single story, detached garage at 627 South First Avenue. There was report of one victim trapped inside the structure. 

The first unit to arrive gained entry into the garage and rescued one male from inside. He was transported to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics by Johnson County Ambulance Service. His condition is unknown at this time. 

Fire crews extinguished the fire, ventilated the smoke and checked for hot spots. The fire was brought under control within 10 minutes of arriving on scene. 

Sixteen fire department personnel were on scene and were assisted by the Iowa City Police Department, Johnson County Ambulance Service and MidAmerican Energy. 

The garage sustained smoke and fire damage. A damage estimate is not known at this time. Investigators are still on scene and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
