At 5:22 a.m., Jan. 30, 2022, the Iowa City Fire Department was called to a building fire at 1126 Pine St.

Crews arrived on scene within three minutes of being dispatched and encountered fire on the exterior of the home. Two occupants of the home were exiting when crews arrived on scene, but told firefighters their dog was still inside.

The fire spread to the attic of the home and crews were able to bring the fire under control by 5:50 a.m. Firefighters located the dog - who was not injured - and returned him to his owners. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and damage estimates are not yet available.

The Iowa City Fire Department was assisted by the Iowa City Police Department, Johnson County Ambulance Service, MidAmerican Energy and the Johnson County Emergency Communications Center.
