At 5:49 a.m. on Thursday, November 22, 2018, the Iowa City Fire Department responded to a report of a kitchen fire at 1577 Stafford Place.
The first unit arrived on scene seven minutes after notification and reported light smoke from a single-story fourplex. The occupant had evacuated the residence prior to the arrival of the fire department. The fire was contained to the kitchen and extinguished within five minutes after arrival.
The residence sustained fire damage to the kitchen and light smoke damage throughout the building. A loss estimate is not yet available. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Iowa City Fire Department. Outside agency support and assistance was provided by the Iowa City Police Department, Johnson County Ambulance Service, Johnson County Joint Emergency Communication Center, and Mid-American Energy.
